Airports in the Maldives
The area often referred to as Malé or Malé Airport actually comprises three islands: Malé, Hulhulé Island, and Hulhumalé.
Malé is the capital city of the Maldives, while Hulhulé Island is home to Malé International Airport, officially known as Velana International Airport, as well as the seaplane terminals.
Hulhumalé is a reclaimed island known for its rapid development and residential areas. Although tourists can visit Malé and Hulhumalé, it is unlikely that they will have time to do so before their transfer.
The Sinamalé Bridge, also known as the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge, connects Malé to Hulhulé Island, significantly enhancing accessibility between the capital city and Velana International Airport.
