The airport boasts modern facilities and amenities designed to provide a comfortable and efficient travel experience. Duty-free shops offer a wide range of products, from luxury goods and electronics to local crafts and souvenirs, catering to the needs of international travellers. A variety of restaurants and cafes serve both local Maldivian cuisine and international dishes, ensuring that passengers have ample dining options during their transit.

Velana International Airport also features several lounges, including premium lounges for first-class and business-class passengers, providing a relaxing environment with complimentary services such as Wi-Fi, refreshments, and comfortable seating areas. Currency exchange services and ATMs are readily available throughout the airport, making it convenient for travellers to manage their finances upon arrival or departure.

Arriving at Malé

Upon arrival at Malé, travellers disembark from their international flights directly onto the tarmac, where it is best to be prepared for the weather, which will be around 30 degrees Celsius. Guests are then guided to a bus to head to the main terminal. After clearing immigration, they collect their luggage from the baggage claim area and proceed to the arrivals hall. Here, they are greeted by resort or guesthouse representatives holding signs displaying the names of their respective accommodations. These representatives, often referred to as airport butlers, assist with luggage and guide guests to the next step of their journey, whether it be a transfer to a speedboat dock, the domestic flight terminal, or a seaplane terminal. This personalised service ensures a smooth and efficient transition, setting a welcoming tone for the start of their Maldivian adventure.

As the busiest airport in the Maldives, Velana International Airport handles a significant volume of both international and domestic flights. It connects the Maldives with major cities around the world, including Dubai, Singapore, Istanbul, Doha, and many more. The airport is serviced by numerous international airlines such as Emirates, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, and Turkish Airlines, as well as the national carrier, Maldivian Airlines.
